Poralla is located in Germany, but does business with people worldwide.
What stands out about Poralla is that they re-gild harps, which appears to be something few companies do. Poralla can work with harps that have been broken; in fact, they will reconstruct your harp. And they state they are willing to work with all brands of harps.
Poralla offers a guarantee from their workshop when they work with second-hand instruments. Some harpists may also be interested in using their delivery services they offer for concert harps. If needed, they can condition and regulate harps at the customer’s residence.
Poralla claims to use the latest technology for lacquering and if the customer needs it, they can also use traditional methods.
We must admit we weren’t impressed with Poralla’s website, but Poralla had a good number of harps available. Poralla has customers from all over Europe, the United States and Japan.
Poralla has a very good inventory of pedal and lever harps. Supposedly Poralla offers Camac harps, but only on request. In addition, Poralla’s website states that they offer electric harps, but all we could find was a photo and no other information on them. As far as rentals go, we only found one harp available for rent.
Poralla doesn’t offer tons of options for accessories, but they do seem to have everything you would need for your harp, from cases, to trolleys, to tuning devices.
Poralla offers Lyon & Healy, Salvi, Camac, and Aoyama harps.
All Poralla harps come with covers and tuning keys. They also offer a rent-to-own program and feature a buy back guarantee on each harp.
We were left wanting to know more about their service agreements. They do however say they offer a buy-back guarantee, but as with so many options they mention, little information is actually given on the Poralla website.
They mention servicing and regulating on their website. In fact, it is included for 1 time in 12 months after purchase, but the information was scant. They do offer several contact numbers, but the phone numbers were international.
We were not impressed with the home page and we were sorry to see that some of the information available on the Poralla website was not available in English. We also found the bio of Wolf-Dietrich Poralla was hard to read and wasn’t all that interesting.
The accessories they had listed weren’t described very well and left the customer wanting to know more about the offerings.
We feel that Poralla is a good place to purchase a harp from and may very well be the best place to go if you need to have your harp reconstructed or re-gilded. The fact that they are willing to work with all harp brands is indeed impressive. We wish they would better their website and that they would give more information on their products and services.
As far as purchasing your harp, we advise you to read our reviews of the top-ranked sites: Sylvia Woods Harp Center, Harps Etc. and The Harp Connection that offer a more complete selection of harps and accessories.
